Big 4th Texas Shootout Avoids Rain.  Heat is Another Story.  Fallen Racer Remembered…
    7/4/2010
With remnants of hurricane Alex still dotting the Texas radars, racers braved the muggy and humid conditions to complete the 6th Annual Big 4th Texas Shootout.  Racing was close as evident in the 2.50 Index class where 2 drivers hit the magic bulls eye of 2.500 during qualifying, with Jeff Schmidt taking the number one spot over Darron Legnon .  Since both racers ran identical et's, we had to revert to the mile per hour clocking of each car.  Jeff 's .3 mph difference gave him the 1st round bye.  During this event, you could not help but feel the loss of Dillon Roberts.  The 6th Annual Big 4th Texas Shootout event was held in his honor, as he was being laid to rest in Floresville.  A memorial fund has been established with Wells Fargo bank under the name of Dillon Lee Roberts.  Godspeed young man.
SAMDRL Loses One Of It's Own…
    7/2/2010
The SAMDRL racing community is minus one this sad day.  It is with a heavy heart that we pass on the news that 14 year old Dillon Roberts, nephew to "Buggy Donnie" Roberts, lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident this past Monday.  Our thoughts are with the entire Roberts family as it is with our racing family during this dificult time.
World Finals Cut to 3 Day Event…
    6/26/2010
This years RC Drag Racing World Finals, October 1, 2 & 3, will be cut down by one day.  Making this event 3 days instead of the traditional 4 days will help racers save money on hotel cost in addition to food and other cost associated with an additional day tacked on.  More information on this event to soon follow.
Mega Points Handed Out.  Big 4th Around the Corner…
    6/20/2010
A truckload of point were handed out this past weekend, signifying the half way point in the 2nd Points Series in the 2010 SAMDRL Racing Season.  Nearly 3000 points were awarded to the 25 vehicles entered in competition that evening.  Temps were hot, but racing was hotter!  There is one more points race to contend and then the big daddy, the 6th Annual Big 4th Texas Shootout pot race July 4th weekend!  You know everyone is going to be there, and the fireworks stand next door will be pumping out the fireworks.  Let's just hope they have a fire extinguisher nearby because of the hot action on our track!  Gates open at 10:00 am with qualifying to get started at 12 noon.
Record Breaking Texas Twister Event In The Books!!!
    6/13/2010
55 total entries greeted all racers attending the 3rd race in the 2010 Texas Twister Points Series.  Bracket racing was close and tight. 2.50 Index was cut throat. 1.05 Outlaw featured many aerial acrobatic performances.  Funny Car/Pro Mod was quick and fast.  Electric Top Fuel saw side by side 1.4's and a dip into the 1.3's.  Check out the results below.

The San Antonio racing community just got a little bigger as we welcome Karlee Legnon into this world.  Born to the son of Darron and Pam Legnon, the ubber proud grandparents are beaming at the track with pride and joy at this gorgeous little wonder.  Congratulations to the Legnon family!

"Almost" Memorial Weekend Cash Grab Race in the Books…
    5/23/2010
    Results
Kingsville, Houston, Bastrop and San Antonio racers made up the tapestry of drivers competing in the 4th Annual Memorial Weekend Cash Grab Race on May 22nd.  Racing was close and fast!  Robert Spicer, from Kingsville, thrashed in his pits after a horrendous high-speed, top end crash during Top Fuel qualifying and managed not only to get his car back together, but able to finish in the money in both, Bracket and Top Fuel!  Way to go.  Houstonian Sunny Waas made a little history for himself as he toiled around with his Top Fuel mount and produced his first 1.3 second pass.  A thing of beauty!  Thanks and congratulations to all the racers who competed.

    5/1/2010

With 53 entries in the Combined Bracket Class and 26 entries in the 2.50 Index Class, this was by far one of the best attended series.  It was no surprise that Jeff Schmidt took top honors in both classes, wrapping up a most successful series of round wins, race wins and money!  Jeff outlasted his competition by a total of 354 overall points.  His nearest competition, himself, in second place in both classes!  Congratulations to all the drivers that competed in this series and good luck in the 2nd Points Series which gets underway on  May 15th.

The 4th Annual Ultimate Cash Grab race held this past weekend at Litespeed Raceway was much of the same old thing as Jeff Schmidt worked his way through the pack in both classes to snag all the first place monies.  Robert, SAMDRL's newest racer, kept Jeff honest in the finals of the Combined Bracket class.  Big, bad Joe Braddock put it to the husband and wife team of Kip and Michelle, taking the B-Side winnings in both classes.
Texas Twister, a Wet and Wild Event, To Be Finished In SA…
    4/11/2010

Mother Nature had to disrupt all drag racing action throughout the Houston/Baytown area with a little of the wet stuff, but that only gave the racing surface a good cleansing and racers more time to get it all figured out before first round of qualifying.  With the delayed start of racing, the action went late into the evening before the event was temporarily halted.  All races not completed will be finished at the 3rd Texas Twister event to be held at Litespeed Raceway on Saturday, June 12th.  Track will open at 10:00 am for test and tune.  Racers still in competition will contest the remainder of their rounds during class qualifying, so all times will count for qualifying as well as Texas Twister race #2 eliminations.  Stay tuned sports fans for more information as the Twister is spinning up to full power!
The Broken Record Continues:  Jeff Schmidt All But Locks Up Both Class Series…And Pockets A Little Cash Along The Way...
    3/27/2010

With his foot firmly on the throats of his competition, Jeff Schmidt has all but sealed up the first points series of the 2010 SAMDRL racing season.  Not one class, but both, and by a substantial margin thus far.  Right now, Jeff's closest competition is, well, himself!  With a cushion of several hundred points between he and the rest of the competition, Jeff is set to do what he's been doing all year long: double up!  Jeff nearly double-doubled again this weekend during double points, just missing out on the A-Side Bracket victory, but did double-double in the 2.50 Index class, taking the A-side winner and runner up positions.  To add insult to injury, he also scooped up the .400 Perfect Light Award during his first round victory in the 2.50 Index class.  Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, he did it again in round 2!  WOW!  To say that Jeff is having a great year is say that oxygen is a good thing.  Quite the understatement!  Congrats Jeff, on yet more incredible feats!

Jeff Schmidt is Unstoppable !!!
    3/6/2010

Jeff Schmidt, still basking in his double up win from February 19th, has captured all the 1st place money thus far in the 2010 SAMDRL pot races at Litespeed Raceway!  Jeff not only took 1st in Combined Bracket, but he doubled up again, grabbing the 2.50 Index class win.  Jeff's consistency in both, reaction time and vehicle performance, has him heads and shoulders about all others at this point.  Jeff, building off this success, is looking to expand his operations into the newly formed 1.05 Outlaw class.  What does this mean?  More trouble for the 1.05 Outlaw guy staged in the other lane!  Congrats Jeff, on a spectacular season  opening effort!  Way to go!
Test-N-Tune Session This Weekend at Litespeed Raceway ...
    2/24/2010

Racers, this weekend is your chance to test those changes you've been thinking about but never had the time to try.  This weekend, we will open the track for an all day test-n-tune session, allowing racers to make unlimited passes.  Track will open at 10:00 am and will remain open until 4:00 pm for 6 hours of non-stop speed and learning.  A $5.00 per person (not car) track maintenance fee is all that it will take to put all of your cars on the track.  There is no car limit.  This session will yield speed secrets and enlighten those racers who have been wanting to try new tune-ups and chassis configurations.  Bring your pens and paper, because you don't want to forget to write down what works and what doesn't!  Bet we see the video cameras too!  Grudge racing will be allowed!
    Schmidt Racing On A Tear….
    2/20/2010

VP Race Fuels sponsored driver Jeff Schmidt is making it look real easy as he continues to plow through the competition at Litespeed Raceway.  His consecutive round wins are currently at 30 as he proceeds to dominate both Combined Bracket and 2.50 Index classes.  His domination began back on December 12th of 2009!  Is there no one who can stop the juggernaut that is Jeff Schmidt?  Only time will tell, but it looks to be a long road ahead for all those who line up against him!

Like a whirling dervish, the Texas Twister Points Series is underway and like the name says, it was full of excitement and devastation.  An 18 car field greeted those entered into the Combined Bracket class where the racing was close, fast and exciting.  12 cars were entered into the 2.50 Index class where it was an all SA finals on the A-side, while Houston triumphed over Bastrop in the B-side finals.  This race ushered in the era of the 1.05 Outlaw class.  This class saw 7 of the most nasty, short wheel-based, 1 inch tire, non-wheelie bar sporting things around!  Bastrop took the A-side over SA while it was an all SA final on the B-side.  Last but not least, 7 of the fastest Electric Top Fuelers took to the strip, with SA taking the top spot over Houston in a great final race on the A-side while Houston reigned supreme over Bastrop on the B-side.  Check out the ladders to see how your favorite driver or city faired in this, the first of 6 races.

The first cash race of the early 2010 season is in the books and not before Jeff Schmidt Managed to spoil a lot of fun.  He managed to double up in the Bracket class as well as taking the win in the 2.50 Index class.  Guess it's a good thing that he wasn't running in the Electric Top Fuel class!  A great race was enjoyed by both, the San Antonio contingency as well as the high energy group of Gulf Coast RC Drag Racers from Houston.  Bastrop was also represented as someone from each of these areas ended up in the money round.  Check out the results and see who might be buying you lunch this week!

Jeff Schmidt Completes the Trifecta and Scores Cash on a Near Perfect Night of Racing !!!
    1/23/2010
After a 2 week weather delay, racing finally resumed at Litespeed Raceway only to see VP Race Fuels sponsored driver Jeff Schmidt pick right up where he left off, scoring his third consecutive win in a row in the Combined Bracket class.  Not only did he claim the $100 prize for doing so, he also scored the A-Side Runner Up position in the same class.  Let us not forget that, on this same night, he also snatched up the Winner and Runner Up spots in the 2.50 Index class!  About the only thing he did not accomplished this evening was to grab the .400 Perfect Light Award!  All this while being under the weather the entire event.  He'd even commented that he was thinking of calling it quits early in the day when a severe wind storm kicked in, making conditions miserable for all out in it.  Way to hang in there!  Great job on a tremendous feat!
