Final Results in the 2.50 Index Class Points Race …
    12/30/2007
What an exciting 16 weeks of racing.  "Bad Joe" Braddock jumped out to an early lead, winning 8 events with 2 different cars, but several racers made it interesting towards the end.  In total, there were 6 different winners throughout this series:  Joe Braddock, Kip Scharf, Donnie Legnon, John Schneider, David Mares and Darron Legnon.  When the smoke had cleared, Joe had come out on top, taking the SAMDRL 2007 2.50 Index Class Points Championship. Congratulations to everybody that participated!  2008 will be even more exciting!

New Points Series To Begin In 2008 Just Some of the News …
    12/30/2007
The SAMDRL will host 2 Points Series this year.  Not only will the popular 2.50 Index Class be back, but we will encompass the points series format for the Combined Bracket Class.  There will be a total of 3 Points Series in 2008, the first beginning on the 5th of January and continuing until May 31st.  The second points series will start on June 7th and continue until September 27th.  The third series will be contested from October 11th thru December 27th.  We will take each racers best 8 races in each series.  Should there be a tie at the end of the series, we will count total event wins and, if necessary, count qualifying positions. Each weekly winner will have their name and winning date engraved on the trophies.  The winner of each point series will take home the covenant trophy in each class.

Also new for the 2008 season will be $5.00 entry fees!  That's right!  We're going back to 1999 prices!  5 bucks a car will get you in to the best racing around!  Where else can you get so much enjoyment for just 5 bucks?  The only exception will be special events and the ever popular pot races.

2007 IMDRA World Final Results

With the dust settling from the recently held 2007 IMDRA World Finals, several local racers emerged as class leaders with their performances.  Right off the bat, Joshua Wood from Dallas took top honors in the Dragster/Rail Concours with his incredible skull paint  job.  Very nice.  SA residents Glenn Discus, David Olsen and Darron Legnon were tops in the Bracket class as Glenn TQ'd, David claimed the B-side win and Darron took all the marbles on the A-side.  Dallas racers Marvin Jackson TQ'd in the Top Alcohol Funny Car/ Dragster class while Mike Barge took the runner up honors.  Marvin also set a new Alcohol dragster et record.  The Extreme class belonged to San Antonio as Alfred Rodriguez took runner up and Bob Antelope won the event.  Alfred also set a new world record of 100.2 mph for this class, shattering the old record by 6 mph!  Dallas based Joshua Wood set the et bar at 1.307, also shattering the old record.  David Guerrero, of San Antonio, claimed TQ in Nitro Top Fuel and then went on to grab the runner up spot.

2007 IMDRA World Final Results

The 2007 IMDRA World Finals held October 4th-7th produced numbers that have not been seen before, with 11 records being set during the competition.  Drivers actually dipped into the record books 72 times, ultimately ending up with the 11 new records being set.  Dallas resident Joshua Wood ran a personal best speed of 108.2 miles per hour, while Jim "Rainman" Shauer nearly broke into the 1.2 second et range when he ran a number one qualifying time of 1.316 seconds.  Be sure to read about the event, which was a huge success.  Plans are already under way for the 2008 event!

OMG !!!!!!!! What a weekend.  With racers from Dallas and Houston in attendance, San Antonio drivers had their work cut out!  Ultimately, San Antonio took home the gold, but Houston took 2 of the 3 podium spots back to H-town with them.  The big talk was of the accomplishments by one Extreme racer in Alfred Rodriguez.  Alfred's first run of the day was a half-track crashing, 3/4 track tire blowing, going across the finish line sideways 1.40 second run.  If Alfred could get his car back together, he should break into the 1.3 second group.  Well, not only did he get into the 1.3's (several times!) , only the second person in the world to accomplish this and the first to do this during IMDRA competition, but he also broke the 100mph barrier during 1st round of Extreme eliminations.  Yes, he won that race!  Read more on the write-up to see what happened and who took home the money!

Big Bad Joe Knocks Off Racers for the 5th Consecutive Race !!!

    8/28/2007

Bad Joe Braddock took home his 5th consecutive win in the 2.50 Index class this past weekend, making him the odds on favorite to win the overall points at the end of the year.  This class will take a racers best 7 event points and add them up.  There is still a great chance for all racers to catch Joe, as the points will start to get tighter as the year winds down.  It is figured that the difference in points will come down to less than 10 points when it's all said and done.  Racers, don't give up hope.  December 29th will tell the tale!

    Results !!
The Texas Twister Points Series concluded in San Antonio this past weekend and will be heading back to Houston for the exciting conclusion at the 2007 Autorama in the George R. Brown Convention Center in front of thousands of car enthusiast and gear heads on Thanksgiving weekend.  Race number 3 provided several exciting races and exposed several drivers to race issues.  They now have approximately 4 months to get all the issues resolved.  Will they?  November will tell!  Check out the results from this weekend bash.  It was a blast!

New Points Series Introduced at Weekend Event…
    7/29/2007

The popular 2.50 Index Class at Litespeed Raceway has spawned a new battle.  A battle that will take racers to the end of the 2007 racing season.  Racers will compete in the next 14 events.  Points will be taken from each racers best 7 races.  The racer with the most points at the end of the last race (December 29th) will claim the title of 2.50 Index Class 2007 Champion!  Each weekly winner will pose with the trophy and have their name and winning date plated on the trophy for all to see.  After the December 29th race, the overall winner will be announced and their name will be engraved on the front plate.  The trophy will be awarded to the champ at the January 5th race.  Good luck to everyone!

Texas Twister Points Series Continues Next Weekend !!!!
    7/27/2007

The third race in the hotly contested Texas Twister Points Series returns to Litespeed Raceway on Saturday, August 4th.  Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and all points in between will battle it out for points and trophies, ultimately awarding the championship to the top dog at the 4th and final race in the series at the Houston Autorama Thanksgiving weekend.  There's plenty of time for anyone to compete.  We're just half way done, but you might be the next Tony Schumacher to pull it off at the last event!  15 bucks to enter.  Track opens at 10:00 with qualifying to get under way at high noon.  It's sure to be a blast!
The 3rd Annual Big 4th Texas Shootout Pot Race Gets Hosed By The Weather…
    7/7/2007

With so many straight days of rain, was it a surprise that this weekends race would be cancelled?  Well, yes and no.  There was no rain when drivers started arriving at the track but nobody expected to see the track under water!  That's right.  We've apparently had enough rain to flood the field to the left of the track.  The excess water then began spilling onto the left lane of the track.  At its worst, there was over 2 inches of water covering the entire left lane.  This race will be cancelled with no plans to make it up, due to the existing race scheduling.
The Lampasas Ultimate RC Drag Racing Shootout was Completed!
    7/3/2007
    Results !!

Mother Nature sure tried her best to screw with our race, but very persistent racers with blowers, brooms and shop vacs had something to say about that!  Shortly after 2nd round action in Bracket, the skies opened up.  After an hour long delay, the racing resumed.  The racing surface was second to none.  Local racer Bob put his LiPo powered creation through it's paces, dropping a 1.42 at 94 mph on it's first pass.  Unfortunately, his next pass would result in severe damage to his car after completing a 1.45 pass and finding a safety cone at the top end of the track.  The car looks to be repairable and he will be back.  For a complete rundown of the incredible event, check out the link to the left or go to Weekly Winners.
Lampasas Bound With The Hammer Down !!!!!!!
    6/5/2007

Okay racers!  Mark your calendars!  June 30th is the date.  The event…….the first RC drag race in Lampasas, Texas.  It's a FREE race, so there's a bonus right off the bat!  Also, racers from all over Texas will be in attendance, making this a large event, possibly as big as the 2006 IMDRA World Finals!  Who knows!  But don't be left out.  This trophy race will host a Bracket class, Monster Truck class and of course, the ever popular EXTREME class, with cars reaching the 100 mph mark.  The super tight, seal-coated track, is as smooth as can be with tons of shutdown area.  Perfect for putting down some serious horsepower!  Lampasas lifeguards will be manning the concession stand to take care of our munchy needs!  Check out the race flyer for all the details.
SAMDRL Summer Time Schedule Around The Corner...

With Summer heat making it's way quickly into the San Antonio area, the SAMDRL will be reverting to the Summer schedule on June 23rd.  The track will open at 5:00 PM with the first round of qualifying to get underway at 7:00 PM.  That's right race fans, Racing Under The Lights!
1st Annual Memorial Weekend Cash Grab Race Rained Out…
    5/26/2007
The 1st annual Memorial Weekend Cash Grab race was to have taken place on Saturday, May 26th, but Mother Nature had other plans.  With a forecast of 80% chance of more rain and thunderstorms looming in the distance, SAMDRL decided to pull the plug on this event.  This race will not be rescheduled.  We will resume weekly racing activities on Saturday, June 2nd.

2.50 Index Class To Be Introduced at SAMDRL This Weekend…
    5/15/2007

The SAMDRL is proud to introduce a new class of radio controlled drag racing this weekend.  The 2.50 Index class will pit fast cars against each other in a true heads-up battle.  A class that does not require a big bank roll to compete in, this class should provide some of the best racing action yet.  As an added bonus, a mini series will accompany this new class.   During our next 5 regular weekend race days, racers who compete in this class will be trying to earn points through qualifying and final elimination positions.  Racers will take their best 3 efforts, add them together and divide by 3 to create their overall average score.  The racer with the highest score, after the June 30th race, will have their entry fee paid for at the Labor Day Weekend Dash 4 Cash race that following weekend.   8 bucks gets your car entered in this class unless you are entered in another class that evening.  Then your entry fee is only 2 bucks!  Wow!  3 rounds of qualifying with the driver closest to the 2.50 index being awarded top qualifier.  Points system can be found below.  Get those cars ready!  Cars entered in the 2.50 class are not eligible for the contingency payout.
Local Racers Return From      "The Rock"…
    5/15/2007
SAMDRL's Extreme standouts "Mr. Speed", Bill Poisso and "Dragster" Kevin Weaver, made believers out of the rest of the racers gathered at Rockingham Dragway.  Mr. Bill, owner of Litespeed Engineering and designer of perhaps the best extreme car in the Area 51 dragster, watched with pride as his cars claimed all sorts of top qualifying positions and captured several victories at the recent IMDRA Spring Nationals at Rockingham, North Carolina.  Bill recently ventured over to the dark side and tried his hand with electric power as Dragster Kevin brought out an idea to Litespeed Raceway one fine day.  With a little help from Mr. Bill, Kevin was soon flirting with world record times and speeds.  During one test and tune session at "The Rock" before qualifying, Kevin stood the world on edge as he took his Area 51E/ Castle Creation sponsored rocket to an unbelievable 1.466 seconds at 104 mph!  Absolutely unbelievable!  Great job guys!  Congrats on your accomplishments!

Results
A windy day greeted racers competing in the 1st annual SAMDRL Ultimate Cash Grab Pot Race, April 14th.  Despite the winds, the racing action was wild, fast and fun.  Litespeed Raceway saw it's first 1.4 second blast from Kevin and his incredible Litespeed Area 51electric dragster.  See how he faired in the Extreme class.  Heavy hitter Joe, our last money winner, gave grief to just about everyone in the Bracket class.  See if he took home the money!

The San Antonio Model Drag Racing League enjoyed 4 days of drag racing atmosphere at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Amalie Oil Texas Nationals at San Antonio Raceway in Marion on March 23rd, 24th and 25th.  So many cars were displayed that there was absolutely no more room on the table!  What a beautiful thing!  So many racers and their team members came by to check out our cars, many amazed at the speeds they are capable of.  Check out the write-up and pictures of the event.  For those who attended, what a time!  For those that missed out,  get ready for next year!!!!!  Thanks, thanks and thanks to all the racers who allowed us to display their cars, gave of their time and helped out at the booth and just made this the best display yet!
Cold Hard Winter Cash Blast Race Was A Doozy !!!!
      2/19/2007
SAMDRL's first pot race of the 2007 racing season is in the record books.  The 2nd Annual Cold Hard Winter Cash Blast Race was indeed a blast.  Weather was interesting as a continuous, steady 15 mph wind out of the North  made the starting line quite tricky, but most drivers were able to traverse the 132 feet of remaining asphalt with little to no problems.  The temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 60's meant finding your nitro tune, while the electric guys were trying to figure out the racing surface.  Racers from Dallas and Houston came to SA to give the SAMDRL a run for it's money, and that they did.  Drivers also competed for valuable IMDRA Division 4 Regional Points.  These points will be used to determine the best of the best in the South-central area, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, New Mexico and of course, Texas.  Read the entire race report by clicking on the link below.  Thanks to all that participated and congratulations to the winners and runner-ups!  Job well done.
